New Year's Dumpster Preparation

posted Dec 28, 2014, 5:32 AM by Easy Bins

Congratulations, you survived the holidays! During the quiet and peaceful times, you were probably pushing off the thoughts of what is to come in the new year. But, now it's time to get your head in the game. Are you moving, renovating, or perhaps downsizing a elderly parent?  All of these are life events are major, and need to be treated as such. Adding to the stress of these projects will be all of your regular activities of life, so anything that you can do to streamline your project is going to save you, time, money, and sanity. Thus, please consider the following as you formulate your project plan.

Many of our customers perform a multi-phase approach to their project. They will rent a roll-off dumpster to put in their driveway for an initial clean-out. They'll clean out a single area, like a garage, attic, shed, or basement to make room for a workspace.  For example, if they're moving, they'll clean out the basement to make an area for packing.  For a renovation of a kitchen or bathroom, then empty space in the garage for new, incoming materials. (Like appliances, flooring, drywall, etc) This can be done a couple of weeks prior to starting the bulk of the project activity.

Next, once the project is underway, a second dumpster is rented for demolition debris, or items that are considered junk, and will not be moving to the next location. This helps to reduce the clutter that may get pushed to other areas of the house, or just clog up your workspace.

Finally, as your project starts to wind down, a third dumpster will assist with keeping things neat and organized. It's not uncommon to see a dumpster and a moving truck side by side in the driveway. As the items are brought out of the house, they have a place to go.  And whether it is planned ahead of time, or placed impulsively, the great thing is that it only has to be moved once.  For construction projects, having a bin at the ready for the debris created during the rebuilding process keeps your jobsite clean and orderly.  There's nothing worse than having to walk around loose boards, cardboard boxes from new items (Cabinets, fixtures, etc.), and/or pallets or other delivery items.

We hope you have enjoyed these tips, and that they will keep your project moving smoothly and efficiently. Check out these other great articles as you start to plan your next project:

Penguin Paddling, a Kayak and Standup Paddle Board rental and tour outfitter, new to Woodbridge, invites you to join us for a day filled with service, fun, paddling, live music, and fun for the family! Our cleanup is targeting the Julie J. Metz Wetlands, Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge, Potomac River, and Neabsco Creek.

Our goal is to clean up the water for everyone to use! We are offering the use of our fleet of rental kayaks, free of charge, to volunteers working with us as we remove refuse from the waterways. Please join us! We encourage you to bring your own paddle powered boat to help us out. ,We have opportunities for people to participate on and off the water. Please wear clothes and shoes that can get wet/dirty/muddy as we will be working along the shorelines to pick up refuse. While we normally welcome dogs out on our kayaks (we even have doggy PFD’s), we ask that you refrain from bringing them to this event as it will be a working event with a lot of people.

Following the cleanup, we will have live music, food for purchase, fun activities, door prizes and free use of our boats for you to enjoy as a token of our appreciation for helping out! The work will begin at 10am and be completed by 2pm. Following the cleanup work, we will have live music, a Peruvian Chicken Food Truck, and a ton of fun! As our way of saying thank you to those who helped us clean up, we will allow our volunteers the free use of our equipment for the remainder of the afternoon as our way of saying thanks!

"Feed the 5000" Food Service Project

Feed the 5000 Project is a food service mission of the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) in Alexandria, VA. It is the vision of our pastor, Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley, who saw a great need in the local community and sought God on how to give “real time” help to families experiencing financial challenges. Nearly one in 10 Virginians live below the federal poverty level, according to the Virginia Poverty Task Force.

The core of our mission is to emulate the biblical miracle where Jesus Christ fed 5,000 people with two fish and five loaves of bread. We believe Christ’s action speaks to the value of sharing resources and the humanity of meeting the immediate needs of those who lack.

In it's inaugural year 2012, Feed the 5000 provided one week’s worth of groceries to more than 3,400 men, women and children. This milestone was met because of the partnership Alfred Street established with ALIVE! (ALexandrians InVolved Ecumenically), a renowned service organization with deep roots in the Alexandria community.

Feed the 5000 Project is funded by the generosity of the Alfred Street Baptist Church congregation, friends and supporters. If you would like to support this event financially, please click above. ASBC is working closely with the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) in Alexandria to identify families that qualify for federal assistance. Applicants are required to register with a local DCHS office or with Alfred Street Baptist Church, via web or in person prior to the event.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.

Save Time and Sanity on the Weekends with a Dumpster Rental

posted May 1, 2013, 7:30 PM by Webster Master   [ updated May 1, 2013, 7:32 PM ]

One of the added benefits to renting a dumpster in Northern VA is that your only job is to load the dumpster with your household or construction debris.  Once it is loaded, practice your favorite wave good-bye, as that is all that is left to for you to do. If you don't believe that a Roll-off dumpster delivered to your driveway is a great idea, then
Dumpster Rentals help to avoid long lines at the Landfill in Northern VA
contrast this with Harry Homeowner, who spends his weekend hurried, harassed

Harry Homeowner Goes to the Landfill

On Saturday, he wakes up and drives to the rental truck/trailer lot and get a vehicle suitable for loading his debris. Since every other Harry Homeowner is there, he must wait in line for the release of the vehicle. Naturally, things can go wrong, and he can be left without a vehicle to rent, and he's wasted a trip, and his project must wait, too.

But, suppose the vehicle is procured, and Harry returns home, and starts to load.  He has to take his wife to dinner that night, and he's already behind schedule.  He commences loading the rented truck/trailer, all the while worried about scratching or damaging it.  After watching his brother-in-law finish off all of the beer and pizza, Harry finally gets a little help with loading, by goading the in-law with a tap of the wristwatch.

With the vehicle loaded, Harry and his drunken in-law head off to the landfill to dispose of the debris. Now Harry finds all the same people he stood in line with at the rental depot are now with him again at the landfill.  While waiting, the air conditioner in the rental truck struggles to keep up with the heat of the summer. and the dreaded in-law begins to feel ill.

After paying for the dump fees, Harry is granted access to the unload area, and backs into a patch of screws and nails, promptly beginning the deflation of a tire as Harry begins to discard the debris from the truck.  After 30 minutes of moving that old couch and those boxes of books one more time, Harry dreams of a hot bath, ibuprofen, and a nap in his recliner.  Unfortunately, when he makes it home to discard the brother-in-law, he discovers the now almost flat tire, and spends more time installing the spare.

Harry's wife comes out to check on his progress, and reminds him that his time is short, and Harry must now hurry back to the rental depot to return the truck where he finds all of his new friends waiting in front of him one more time. As the shadows grow long in the late afternoon, Harry speeds his way home, and is promptly pulled over for exceeding the speed limit.  When Harry finally gets home, he walks in the door, collapses to the floor, and sleeps through dinner.

Call, Load, and Wave Goodbye

Don't be a Harry Homeowner.  Call Easy Bins Dumpster Rentals and order a dumpster for delivery to your Fairfax, Springfield, Arlington, or Alexandria driveway.  Load it at your desired pace over 7 days, and then wave goodbye as it rolls away for good.  We'll take care of the delivery, the waiting, and the dumping leaving more time for you to enjoy that nap and a nice dinner with your better half.
